Eagle‑1 is a compact, industrial‑grade GPS and telematics device developed by the design and engineering team at Design 1st Inc. for real-time tracking and monitoring of heavy equipment fleets. Purpose-built for demanding outdoor environments, it continuously captures usage and location data to support asset optimization, predictive maintenance, and security, all within a low-profile enclosure that balances rugged performance with a refined visual presence suitable for customer-facing installations.

Main Challenges

  • Engineering a slim, sealed enclosure capable of withstanding continuous vibration, dust and water exposure under wide temperature swings.

  • Designing flexible mounting and cable‑routing strategies
    to integrate seamlessly with diverse vehicle architectures and installation constraints.

  • Ensuring durability while preserving RF performance for GPS
    and wireless communication, and ensuring easy access for
    service and configuration.

  • Helped develop a robust, manufacturable device architecture that improves fleet visibility and operational efficiency while meeting or exceeding stringent environmental requirements.

  • Supported the creation of a field‑ready form factor compatible with multiple mounting locations and installation methods across a variety of industrial vehicles.

  • Contributed to iterative design, engineering and DFM loops that
    refined enclosure geometry, wall thicknesses, and internal layouts
    for durability, signal performance, and ease of manufacturing
    and assembly.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Participated in the enclosure and mounting system design,
    working through scenarios for shock, vibration, ingress protection,
    and real‑world installation workflows.

  • Created detailed CAD models and technical drawings used
    for prototyping, tolerance analysis, and communication with manufacturing partners.

  • Collaborated closely with mechanical and electrical engineers
    to align internal hardware layout, connector placement, and antenna positioning with the industrial design intent.

  • Supported evaluation and selection of materials, coatings, and finishes to achieve weather resistance, impact durability, and a coherent product identity.

  • Contributed to design‑for‑manufacture documentation, prototype reviews, and stakeholder presentations that advanced Eagle‑1 from concept through to a production-ready solution.
